RAS AL HADD
Ras Al Hadd, an idyllic town just past Sur, is famous for its turtle nesting season, between April to August, a time where thousands of turtles visit the shorelines to lay their eggs. Dolphin and whale watching are also common activities in this area. Ras Al Hadd translates to "Head of Border or Edge" and is the first place where the sun rises on the Arabian Peninsula.
A 3 hour drive South of Muscat, the route to Ras Al Hadd will take you along a breathtaking coastal road, featuring never-ending sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and turquoise waters.
Within the town, the Gulf waters meander through intricate rocky headlands, ultimately filling a large, glistening lagoon. During the winter season the lagoon serves as the perfect location for kitesurfing, with offshore wind and waist deep water. Ras Al Hadd is a hot-spot for kite-surfers looking to progress quickly, with wind speeds between 15-20 knots on lighter days or 25-35 knots on stronger days.
Accommodation options vary from guest houses to Turtle Beach Resorts.
