BAR AL HIKMAN
Known as the "Hidden Gem of Oman" or the "Maldives of the Middle East", Bar Al Hikman is a recently discovered paradise approximately 5 hours from Muscat or 3 hours from Duqm.
Khareef Kiteboarding is based in Bar Al Hikman from May to September and operates together with a fully accommodated eco-lodge, Whales Head Camp.
Bar Al Hikman is an un-crowded, blissful nature reserve, featuring 2 butter-flat lagoons separated from the open ocean by an endless sandy beach. This remarkable location claimed its nickname Maldives of the Middle East, due to its powdery white sand and pristine turquoise waters. The delicate land is home to hundreds of bird species as well as a vibrant coral reef just 10 km offshore.
Not only are the surroundings picturesque, but the consistent, steady wind and waist-deep water in both the lagoon and open ocean make this the best location in Oman to practice kitesurfing. Much of Oman is often regarded as hot and humid during the summer months, however, Bar Al Hikman is the perfect escape from the heat, as the Khareef (Monsoon) wind cools the area drastically.
The windy season goes from May to September, with the strongest (and coolest) months being July and August. Wind speeds range between
25 - 40 knots during these months, with temperatures falling between 18 - 25°C. In May, June and September, the wind is lighter and ranges between 15 - 25 knots with a temperature of 25 - 30°C.

In the unlikely event of a non-windy day, other activities include paddle boarding or kayaking the calm lagoon waters, wakeboarding, boat excursions to coral reefs and snorkeling.
