MASIRAH ISLAND
A 95 km long island off the east coast of Oman, home to a bustling fisherman town, volcanic rocky mountains and endless turquoise bays, dotted with traditional Omani Dhows. Masirah is a 7 hour drive from Muscat and accessible via ferry from Shannah Port.
This quirky island is known as a fishing hotspot, with restaurants offering everything from fresh tuna to grilled lobster. It also wasn't long until the island was discovered to be a windsurfers and kitesurfers paradise, offering waves on the east coast and flat water on the west coast. As with other spots south of Ras Al Hadd, Masirahs windy season runs from May to September, with the strongest months being July and August.
Wind speeds blow between 15 - 25 knots during May, June and September and between 25 - 40 knots in July and August.
It's important to remember a wetsuit during these months, as the windchill is not to be underestimated.
